I was nearly in tears this morning watching Caitlyn Jenner’s speech from last night’s Espy Awards.
Judge me how you will, she said, but don’t torment them. In reference to the thousands of trans youths struggling with their identity.
It was as clearly and plainly stated as it’s ever been: I am using my profile/status to provoke conversation, awareness, and acceptance.
We don’t have to understand entirely every last detail of trans life to understand the intention behind her mission. Nor is it our job to question whether she is the right person for the job, or doing it in the manner in which it “should” be done.
The point is, she has already saved lives. She will continue to save lives. And I don’t care who you are or what you look like, that’s an heroic legacy to be damn proud of!
I leave you with this: I’m working on this every day, but I want to hear from you. When have you learned a lesson from judging a book by its cover?
